The tunnel rats were soldiers (usually small in stature) whose job was to enter enemy tunnels and conduct search & destroy missions.
Usually armed with a 45 caliber pistol and a flashlight, these courageous men had to be on high alert not only for enemy fighters but for booby traps such as explosives, projectiles and, even venomous snakes!
The tunnels of Cu Chi are the most infamous tunnels. These tunnels were a VC base for the Tet and stretched over 75 miles.
